Anti-government protests in Ukraine

epa04033592 Protesters stand near burned cars as they clash with riot police during an anti-government protest in downtown Kiev, Ukraine, 21 January 2014. Hundreds of protesters carrying clubs and wearing gas masks faced riot police on 20 January in front of government headquarters in Kiev, a day after more than 200 people were injured in violent clashes in almost two-month of anti-government rallies. Protesters demanded Ukraine to align its politics with the European Union (EU) and Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych to resign and call early elections. Yanukovych refused in November 2013 to sign a partnership agreement with the EU and sought closer ties with Russia instead. EPA/SERGEY DOLZHENKO +++(c) dpa – Bildfunk+++
